Art as Activism: Voice of Art’s “Migration is Beautiful”

Everyone from The Huffington Post to Shepard Fairey is talking about the Voice of Art documentary series “Migration is Beautiful.”

Directed by Z.S. Grant and released on Pharrell Wiliams’ iamOTHER Youtube channel, the three-part video captures powerhouse artist/activist Favianna Rodriguez’s art-driven campaign to fight back against anti-immigration legislation.  Passionate and inspired, Favianna enlists other fearless artists and activists to tell their stories and expose the ironies of anti-immigration policies.  Not exclusively political, the Voice of Art series centers on the unique power of art as a catalyst for social change.  Favianna’s owns art embraces the Monarch Butterfly to represent the beauty and dignity of immigrants, a symbol that supporters have collectively adopted in protest of immigration laws.

The buzz has been nonstop since the video series was released last week, with fellow artist/activist Shepard Fairey featuring it on the front page of his website.  So whether you’re a U.S. Citizen, Non-Citizens, or simply just an art lover – you must check out the inspiring “Migration is Beautiful” and spread the word!
