We asked recent Black Dog UK signing, Kyle Lewis, about his favourite creative works, his cures for a hangover, and what he enjoys most about being a director.

Favourite music video?

I have to say my all time favorite video is Hype Williams’ Missy Elliot video for “Shes a bitch”, I remember as a kid seeing that and thinking that’s what I want to do! I want to direct beautiful pictures like that. Another video that I feel is a pure work of art is by Jonas Akerlund “Lady Gaga: Paparazzi” an absolutely perfect pop video! And of course, I’m a total fan boy of anything Jonas does!

Tell us one thing we don’t know about you.

I’m a super fan of the “Scream” franchise…but like the kind that has a ghostface tattoo and collects anything Scream related…like all the things.

What is your favourite word in the English language?

Repertoire.

Beatles or Stones?

A Rolling stone gathers no moss.

What would the title of your autobiography be?

“in that moment: everything changed”

What’s your hangover cure?

In South Africa our crème soda is a bright green colour and also the most incredible hangover cure…but normally a beer by lunch time to take the edge off.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I love creating, as cliché as it may sound, there’s something about being surrounded by other creatives you trust and designing a shot that you can be proud of. It’s the closest thing ive felt to true happiness.

Favourite joke?

Any and all dad jokes…always got time.

You’re stranded on a desert island; you’ve got one book. What is it?

The color purple by Alice Walker.

How do you stay sane at the airport?

Earplugs and hand sanitizer.

What was your first/most embarrassing email address?

maxlewis@hotmail

If you weren’t a director what would you be?

I’d be working at a bar in Bali, just living off the land, surfing and such. And perhaps with a side job of photography***strictly landscapes***of Bali.

Draw a picture of yourself.
