The Nordisk Film & TV Fond has today announced the seven genre film projects selected for its Nordic Genre Boost scheme, including the debut feature from Thora Hilmars.
A total of 61 Nordic projects applied for the third and last round of Nordic Genre Boost initiative, with seven making the final cut. Each project receives a NOK200,000 development grant, as well as access to two intensive residential workshops.
Thora Hilmars’ debut feature ‘Cold’ follows 24-year old Sara and her family as they become isolated when the Earth plunges into darkness. Slowly, a hierarchy forms and Sara, instead of being a leader, becomes a sort of dictator. When the light returns it may be too late to save the family.
Of the scheme Petri Kemppinen, CEO at Nordisk Film & TV Fond said: “The 2017 Nordic Genre Boost selected projects encompass a broad spectrum of genres, including a notable number of thrillers going beyond the extraordinary.”
Given that Iceland is the go-to country to film some eerie landscapes (Prometheus), we’re pretty stoked about this one.
We’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, you can check out more of Thora’s work here.
