How are you finding California?
I’m in love with California, the people, the light, the energy in the air. I feel like this is the best place in the world… at least for me right now. I did a summer road trip with my best friend through Vegas, Mammoth Lake, Mono Lake, Yosemite, Tuolumne Grove, Mariposa, San Francisco and Big Sur. This was mesmerizing, I couldn’t be happier.
Where are your favorite places to frequent around town?
I always had a thing with high point of view. The view from my room here is amazing. It gives me space to project my ideas further and to keep all the perspectives open. Beside home, I like the Griffith Observatory, Lacma, Venice, Little Tokyo… All these good Korean or Japanese restaurants are my favorites places too, but it’s all pretty new to me, I feel like I still have a lot to discover.
What has been the most inspiring thing about living in a new city?
Running at night in the middle of the street with your headphones on, when everybody is sleeping. Everything is to be discovered and everything is possible, the freedom sensation going with this “I’m so lucky to be here” reached it maximum in these moments. I keep saying to myself “I’m living here, I’m living here” while bumping into some coyote and raccoons, this is truly inspiring.
What music do you listen to when you go for those nighttime runs?
I use the shuffle mode, for the surprise of a good song at the perfect moment. Regarding the kind of music it’s 01:08 am right now so I will go out for a night run and note down what popped out later… Here we are for tonight : Braids / James Blake / Hot Chip / Crystal Castles / Washed Out / Boards of Canada / The Knife / Molly Nilsson / Andrew Bayer / The Flashbulb / Disclosure / Caribou / Sohn / Para One.
What is one thing you miss about Paris?
My friends and the walking distances.
What are you working on at the moment?
I did a last shoot with a lovely team before moving here. It’s a really cool personal project, a big crazy one. I’m in the process of editing right now, then I will decide what to do with, because everything is still possible… it’s exciting.
