The Phone Call was honored at the 87th annual Academy Awards winning Best Live Action Short.
The incredibly moving film, by James Lucas and RSA director Mat Kirkby and starring Jim Broadbent and Sally Hawkins, tells the story of Heather, a helpline call centre employee who’s life is changed irrevocably when she receives a phone call from a mystery man.
“Short films are made not with money, they’re made with tenacity and lots of favors,” said Kirkby as he accepted his Oscar. That tenacity has clearly resonated, as the film also picked up wins recently at Tribeca, Dresden, and Aspen film festivals.
A fantastic achievement, congratulations Mat and James!
