Let’s take it back to 2005. A little site called YouTube launched, Brokeback Mountain dominated the Oscars, an un-disgraced Lance Armstrong won his 7th straight Tour de France, and Johan Renck’s music video for Madonna’s “Hung Up” launched, off her Confessions on a Dance Floor album.
In an interview shortly after the release of the music video, Renck went into detail on his thinking behind the video:
“It’s not about the music, but the bodily expression. We wanted to show the whole spectrum, be it krumping, breakdancing, jazz or disco.” Madonna, as always, dances fearlessly, despite the fact that she had fallen off a horse a few days prior and was recovering from a broken rib.
