Congratulations to Christian Larson, who collected the award for Best Choreography at last night’s 2013 UK MVAs! The Black Dog director won for his beautiful Sigur Ros opus “Valtari,” choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. As a trained dancer himself, Larson drew inspiration from four of the Icelandic band’s tracks to create a dance-driven narrative, or what Larson calls, “dialogue through movement.” The powerful film sees a male and female dancer copying each other’s liquid-like motions set against a background of urban decay, before uniting to become one seamless entity of moving parts.
