Congratulations to the Black Dog crew for the 16 MVPA Award Nominations! The list of 2013’s contenders was just released, and we’re so proud to have our directors nominated for the annual awards celebrating the very best music video work.
Director Floria Sigismondi’s name pops up the most on the list, with videos nominated in 12 categories, including DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR for Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors.” Floria appears twice in the categories of BEST DIRECTION OF A MALE ARTIST and BEST COLORIST – both for “Mirrors” and David Bowie’s “The Stars (Are Out Tonight).” She also appears twice for BEST HAIR for Bowie’s “Stars” and Pink’s “Try” (which was also nominated BEST POP VIDEO.)
Her short film for Sigur Ros’ “Leaning Towards Solace” picked up nominations for BEST EDITING and BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY with Starr Whitesides. The video, produced by Coleen Haynes, appears again under BEST VIDEO PRODUCED FOR UNDER $25,000, alongside fellow Black Dog director Christian Larson for his contribution to the Sigur Ros Mystery Project with “Valtari” produced by Noreen Khan.
Other Black Dog honors include a BEST DIRECTION OF A NEW ARTIST nomination for Daniel Kragh-Jacobsen’s gorgeous Rhye video “The Fall.” Dawn Shadforth snagged a BEST ELECTRONIC VIDEO nomination for her trippy Infinity Ink video, and Diane Martel received a BEST R&B VIDEO nom for her too-hot-for-youtube Robin Thicke clip “Blurred Lines.”
Congratulations and good luck to all the Black Dog nominees. We hope to see everyone at the MVPA Awards on May 30th!
