Congratulations to Black Dog’s Alma Har’el for winning a 2013 Webby Award for her Sigur Ros music video “Fjogur Piano”! The Webby Awards are the most prestigious honor for online media, and this year – the Webby’s 17th award season – the crop features some of the very best of visionary digital content, including our own Alma Har’el. The win is for Alma’s contribution to Sigur Ros’ ‘Mystery Project’ – where the band gave a dozen filmmakers the opportunity to choose a song from their new record, Valtari, offering them a modest budget and the creative freedom to create a music video how they see it. Alma interpreted the instrumental track “Fjogur Piano” with a beautiful and haunting film showcasing actor Shia LaBeouf and actress Denna Thomsen – baring all – as a couple caught in a destructive spiral of addiction.
Creativity spoke to the director about the fantastical Webby-winning video, rife with images of intense passion, drug-fuelled trips, and a lyrically choreographed dance. For those that haven’t yet seen “Fjogur Piano” (and you must, right now) – it’s a visual experience of the, “erotic, trippy, hypnotic, painful and misunderstood,” says Har’el. “Like certain relationships we have with ourselves or with people and things.”
